Meet Stephen

Man in a dark button-up shirt against a light background.

I’m Stephen Blackmore, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with over twenty years of experience in spiritual care and mental health support. My work has centered around offering compassionate, strengths-based care to individuals, couples, adolescents, and families navigating life’s most complex and meaningful challenges. Whether it’s grief, relationship conflict, anxiety, depression, or major life transitions, my goal is to provide a grounded space where clients feel deeply heard and empowered.

How I Can Support You

Drawing from decades of providing spiritual and emotional care, I offer an integrative approach to psychotherapy that blends active listening with evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). My work is deeply rooted in trauma-informed care and a belief in every individual’s capacity for healing, growth, and transformation.

I also bring a unique perspective through spiritually integrated psychotherapy, supporting clients who are exploring or reconstructing their faith, dealing with religious trauma, or navigating questions of meaning and identity. As a former public minister and father to a young adult, I understand the pressures that can arise from personal, relational, and societal expectations, and I strive to offer insight and support through every stage of life.

As a white Christian male, I continuously reflect on my own social location and the privileges I hold. I am committed to remaining socially conscious, listening deeply, and learning from the lived experiences of those who come from diverse, marginalized, and neurodivergent backgrounds. I work with clients who identify with ADHD and Autism, and I aim to create a therapeutic space that is inclusive, affirming, and adaptive to their needs.

Types of Therapy

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you develop psychological flexibility by teaching you to accept difficult thoughts and emotions rather than avoiding or fighting them. If you struggle with anxiety, stress, or self-doubt, ACT guides you in recognizing unhelpful patterns and shifting your focus toward actions that align with your values. Through mindfulness, cognitive defusion, and committed action, you learn to engage fully in the present moment and build a more meaningful life. This approach empowers you to respond to challenges with openness and resilience, improving overall well-being.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. If you struggle with anxiety, depression, or negative self-talk, CBT teaches you practical strategies to challenge distorted thinking and develop healthier coping skills. By learning to reframe thoughts and take constructive actions, you can break free from cycles of stress and self-doubt. This evidence-based approach empowers you to manage emotions more effectively, build resilience, and create lasting positive change in your life.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps you develop skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and build resilience. If you struggle with emotional regulation, impulsivity, or distress tolerance, DBT provides practical strategies through four core areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. By balancing acceptance and change, this approach empowers you to navigate challenges with greater stability and self-compassion. DBT fosters a sense of control over your emotions and behaviors, helping you create a more fulfilling and balanced life.

  • In Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, you’ll find that the focus is on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems. This therapy helps you identify your goals and the steps you can take to achieve them. By exploring your strengths and past successes, you gain confidence in your ability to make positive changes in your life. This goal-oriented approach empowers you and motivates you to overcome obstacles, leading to quick and meaningful progress.

  • In Spiritually-Integrated Therapy grounded in Christian principles, you are invited to explore healing and growth through faith, grace, and reflection. This approach draws on the wisdom of Scripture, prayer, and Christian values such as compassion, forgiveness, and hope to support your emotional and spiritual well-being. By integrating your spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process, you can deepen your connection to God, develop greater self-understanding, and navigate life’s challenges with a renewed sense of purpose. Through practices such as prayerful reflection, discernment, and grace-based acceptance, this approach fosters healing, encourages resilience, and helps you align your life with your core values and faith.
